First edition this classic selection of Kipling's songs for children. Octavo, original cloth, illustrations by Leo Bates with 8 tipped-in color plates. Boldly signed by Rudyard Kipling on the title page. Letter of provenance laid in which states that the book was signed for the then-owner's father who attended Caterham School in Surrey, near Batermans. The book was signed by Kipling at an old boys day and then gifted (as per the inscription) to his future wife, an admirer of Kipling's work. In good condition. Rare and desirable signed.

Kipling was born in India, which inspired much of his work and his innovative stories for children have become timeless classics. Kipling was one of the most popular writers in the British Empire, in both prose and verse, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries and was awarded the Nobel Prize in literature in 1907.
