The recipient, Charles Blackwell wrote the screenplay for the film A Piece of the Action, starring Poitier and James Earl Jones. Blackwell was nominated for the Tony Award twice. Sidney Poitier is an actor, film director, activist, and ambassador. In 1964, Poitier won the Academy Award for Best Actor becoming the first black male and Bahamian actor to win that award.
