First edition of the first book in the acclaimed Wheel of Time series. Octavo, original publisher's cloth, pictorial endpapers, illustrated with two maps. Boldly signed by the author on the title page. This is the hybrid issue, one of a small number of wrappered copies that were rebound by the publishers into boards after the small run of 1,500 hardcover copies (most of which went to libraries) was exhausted. It is distinguished by being perfect-bound inside the cloth covers, rather than with the usual quires. It still has the colophon stating "First edition, February 1990", the number line including the 1, the ISBNs for both paperback and hardcover issues listed (removed in later printings), and the first printing jacket priced $24.95.
