Early edition of the author's adventure through Alaska with a dog named Stickeen. Octavo, original publisher's cloth. In very good condition.
John Muir (1838–1914) was a Scottish-born American naturalist, writer, and conservationist whose work profoundly shaped modern environmental thought and the American conservation movement. His advocacy was instrumental in the establishment of several U.S. national parks, including Yosemite and Sequoia, and in the founding of the Sierra Club in 1892, which became a central force in American environmental activism. 'Stickeen: An Adventure with a Dog and a Glacier' (1897) recounts his harrowing adventure across an Alaskan glacier with a small and seemingly timid dog named Stickeen, transforming their shared survival into a profound reflection on courage, companionship, and the spiritual bond between humans and nature.
