First Edition of Feynman's QED: The Strange Theory of Light and Matter; Signed by Him With An Original Drawing
First edition of this work by the Nobel Prize-winning physicist regarding quantum electrodynamics, which James Gleick calls it "a model of science writing." Octavo, original cloth with violet titles to the spine, and no advertisement for Peierls's Bird of Passage to the jacket. Boldly signed by Richard Feynman with an original Feynman diagram on the half-title page. Feynman has signed this example, his signature graphic method of representing the interactions of elementary particles. Fine in a fine dust jacket. Preface by Ralph Leighton. Early printing with the spine lettered in violet (earlier than gilt), but with wove endpapers and the jacket omitting the advertisement for Peierls's Bird of passage (1985), to which Feynman had objected (points according to Princeton University Press records). A unique example.
