First Edition of New York 2000; inscribed by Robert A.M. Stern to Chuck Close
First edition of this acclaimed fifth volume on the architectural history of New York. Thick quarto, original cloth, with over 1,800 color illustrations. Association copy, inscribed by Robert A.M. Stern to Chuck Close on the half-title page, "Robert A.M. Stern for Chuck Close 2010." Chuck Close was an American painter and photographer renowned for his large-scale, photorealistic portraits that pushed the boundaries of portraiture and perception. Despite suffering a spinal artery collapse in 1988 that left him partially paralyzed, Close continued to create art using adaptive techniques, demonstrating a profound commitment to process, technique, and the human face as subject. Very good in a very good dust jacket. Bumping and rubbing to the extremities, splitting to the rear hinge, a few small losses to the bottom of the panels. Bumping and rubbing to the extremities of the dust jacket with a few small closed tears to the top of the rear panel and the crown of the spine.
