Rare Original September 20, 1982 Time Magazine Cover; Signed by Prime Minister of Israel Menachem Begin
Rare Time Magazine cover from the September 20, 1982 issue. Quarto, one page, featuring a reproduction of a bust portrait of Prime Minister Menachem Begin painted by Daniel Bennett Schwartz. Signed by Begin at the middle left on his portrait, "M. Begin." In near fine condition. Accompanied by a typed slip which states, "With the Compliments of the Prime Minister's Bureau."
Menachem Begin was an Israeli politician, founder of the major right-wing political party Likud and the sixth Prime Minister of Israel. His most significant achievement as Prime Minister was the signing of a peace treaty with Egypt in 1979, for which he and Anwar Sadat shared the Nobel Prize for Peace. Before the creation of the state of Israel, Begin was a prominent leader of the Zionist underground organization Irgun during the British Mandate in Palestine.
