Large octavo, 2 volumes bound in three quarters morocco, gilt titles and tooling to the spine, marbled endpapers, top edge gilt, illustrated with a profusion of fine tissue-guarded steel-engraved portraits. In near fine condition.
Leonard Bolles Ellis' History of New Bedford contains a detailed history of the region including the coming of the Pilgrims, the reception of the Quakers, King Philip's War, the War of 1812, New Bedford in the Civil War, and the Whaling Industry, as well as chapters on the town's religious institutions, public schools, fire department, and musical organizations.
