Octavo, original pictorial wrappers, illustrated with color photographs and a folding map of Martian markings charted by Earth-based telescopes in the 1960s. Association copy, boldly inscribed by the author to James Lovell on the title page, "For Jim Lovell with admiration! William K Hartmann." The recipient, James Lovell, was an Apollo 8 and Apollo 13 astronaut who was one of the first three astronauts to fly and orbit the moon alongside Frank Borman and William Anders.
