Hugo Pitman's copy of the First Edition of Ian Fleming's The Spy Who Loved Me, with the original slip from the Publisher
First edition of the ninth novel in Ian Fleming's James Bond series, Hugo Pitman's copy with his name to the front free endpaper. Octavo, original black cloth. Fine in a near fine dust jacket with the original slip from Jonathan Cape asking to subscribe to Now & Then. Jacket design by Richard Chopping. Hugo Pitman served with the Royal Scots during World War I but injuries received during the hostilities left him with severe deafness. He returned to work with Rowe and Pitman after the War and one of his colleagues before the War was the future James Bond author Ian Fleming. Pitman kept Fleming’s job open for him while he was serving in the Royal Navy during the War, but the budding novelist decided to take up an offer to work in journalism instead. An exceptional example with noted provenance.
