First edition of the fourteenth novel in Ian Fleming’s James Bond series. Octavo, original cloth. Boldly signed by legendary director of the film John Glen on the title page. During the 1960s and 1970s, Glen served as a film editor and second unit director, working on such films as Superman (1978) and The Wild Geese (1978); he also contributed to three James Bond films: On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969), The Spy Who Loved Me (1977) and Moonraker (1979). Following the release of Moonraker, Glen was promoted to the rank of official director of the series; he went on to direct all five Bond films of the 1980s. He is the most prolific director of the series to date, with five films, one more than Guy Hamilton. Fine in a fine dust jacket. Jacket design by Richard Chopping. An exceptional example.
Published posthumously, Octopussy and The Living Daylights marks Ian Flemings final contribution to the legacy of his iconic creation, 007 James Bond. These four tales of intrigue are a novel gaze into the deepest character of Bond. The two original stories, "Octopussy" and "The Living Daylights", were both adapted for publication in comic strip format in the Daily Express in 1966–1967. Elements from the stories have also been used in the Eon Productions Bond films. The first, Octopussy, starring Roger Moore as James Bond, was released in 1983 as the thirteenth film in the series and provided the back story for the film Octopussy's family, while "The Property of a Lady" was more closely adapted for an auction sequence in the film. The Living Daylights, released in 1987, was the fifteenth Bond film produced by Eon and starred Timothy Dalton in his first appearance as Bond. "007 in New York", provided character and plot elements for the first two films starring Daniel Craig as Bond, Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace.
