Original Woodstock Music and Art Fair Program.

Original Program for the 1969 Woodstock Music and Art Fair
Original program for the 1969 Woodstock Music and Art Fair, the Aquarian Exposition, among the most celebrated events in the history of popular music. Large octavo, original printed wrappers, illustrated throughout with bold photographic and pop-art portraits of the performers. In near fine condition with light toning and soiling. Rare, as few original programs survived the rain-soaked weekend intact.
The Woodstock Music and Art Fair, billed as an Aquarian Exposition, was held on Max Yasgur’s dairy farm near Bethel, New York, from August 15 to 18, 1969, and has become the defining symbol of the 1960s counterculture. Conceived by Michael Lang, Artie Kornfeld, Joel Rosenman, and John P. Roberts, the festival drew an estimated four hundred thousand people, far beyond what its organizers had planned for, and unfolded over three days of music and persistent rain. Among the artists who performed were Richie Havens, Joan Baez, Santana, the Grateful Dead, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Janis Joplin, The Who, Jefferson Airplane, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, and Jimi Hendrix, whose dawn rendition of The Star-Spangled Banner became one of the most famous performances in rock history. Because of the vast crowds and the rain, few copies of this official program survived the weekend, and it is now a scarce relic of a landmark cultural moment.
