Type-written letter signed by Prime Minister Winston Churchill to the editor of Pall Mall Magazine, George R. Halkett
One page typescript letter on 35A Great Cumberland Place stationary signed by Winston S. Churchill. Dated September 11th, 1900 from 105 Mount Street Grosvenor Square W. and addressed to George R. Halkett, Pall Mall Magazine 18 Charing Cross Road, London. The letter reads: "Dear Sir, I am very busy at the present time, but I have put your letter away and if I can find an opportunity to do what you wish, I shall be very glad to serve you in the matter, Yours truly, Winston S. Churchill." The recipient George R. Halkett served as as editor of Pall Mall Magazine in London from 1901 to 1905. The monthly illustrated magazine published many of the most notable authors of the time including Joseph Conrad, Jack London and G.K. Chesterton. In near fine condition with light creasing. Double matted and framed opposite a black and white photograph of Churchill. The entire piece measures 19.25 inches by 14.25 inches.
British statesman Winston S. Churchill served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1940 to 1945 and again from 1951 to 1955. A non-academic historian, writer and artist, Churchill won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1953 for his overall lifetime body of work. Churchill took the lead in warning the world about the threat of Nazi Germany at the outbreak of the Second World War. His speeches and radio broadcasts inspired British resistance, especially in the years of 1940–41 when the British Commonwealth and Empire stood virtually alone in its active opposition to Adolf Hitler. Upon his death aged ninety in 1965, Queen Elizabeth II granted Churchill the honor of a state funeral, which saw one of the largest assemblies of world statesmen in history.
