Rare original letter signed and entirely in the hand of Virginia Woolf. Octavo, one page on Hogarth House letterhead in purple ink, the letter reads, "Owing to a mistake, the books were not sent you last week, but they have gone today. 'Jacobs Room', 'Night and Day', and 'The Voyage Out.' Let me know if they do not arrive, as sometimes parcels for France and Belgium go wrong. I am glad that you are translating the 'Mark on the Wall' rather than a society-muck look forward to seeing your review. Please give us the pleasure of seeing you if you come to England. Though our French is, I am sorry to say, very much more limited than it should be..." The recipient Paul Colin, was a French writer, poet, and editor who became a prominent figure in the avant-garde literary scene. A champion of internationalism and experimental literature, he sought to bridge cultural divides by highlighting groundbreaking authors from across Europe. Through Europe, Woolf’s explorations of consciousness, time, and identity resonated with French intellectuals, aligning her work with the broader modernist movement flourishing in France. In very good condition. Matted and framed with the original transmittal envelope. The entire piece measures 21 inches by 14.375 inches.
