Autograph letter signed by and in the hand of Ulysses S. Grant. The clipped letter reads, "Should I go to Chicago on the 10th of September however I will try to extend the time, and my visit to Peoria. Respectfully Yours U.S. Grant General." Matted and framed with an engraved portrait of Grant. The entire piece measures 8 inches by 14.25 inches.
Prior to serving as the 18th President of the United States, Ulysses S. Grant served as the Commanding General of the United States Army and led the Union to victory over the Confederacy under the supervision of President Abraham Lincoln. Elected president in 1868, Grant stabilized the post-war national economy, created the Department of Justice, and led the Republicans in their efforts to remove the vestiges of Confederate nationalism, racism, and slavery.
