To Set the Record Straight: The Break-In, The Tapes, The Conspirators, The Pardon.

First Edition of John J. Sirica's To Set the Record Straight; Inscribed by Him
First edition of the account of the most important criminal case tried in the United States, by the federal judge at its center. Octavo, original cloth. Presentation copy, inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper, “For Bob Grossman - Best wishes for a great legal career. John J. Sirica.” Fine in a near fine dust jacket.
To Set the Record Straight (1979) is John J. Sirica’s account of the Watergate scandal from the vantage point of the federal bench, the case that brought down a president. Sirica was Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia, where he presided over the trial of the Watergate burglars and then over the legal battle for President Richard Nixon’s secret White House tape recordings. His order compelling Nixon to surrender the tapes was upheld by the Supreme Court in United States v. Nixon in 1974 and led directly to Nixon’s resignation. Time named Sirica its Man of the Year for 1973 for his insistence that the facts be brought to light. In this memoir he recounts the break-in, the tapes, the conspirators, and the pardon, setting down his own role in one of the gravest constitutional crises in American history.
