Magnificent first edition of L'Estrange's acclaimed English translation of Josephus, considered the finest printing in English. Folio, bound in full period morocco with gilt tooling to the spine in six compartments within raised gilt bands, morocco spine label lettered in gilt, gilt ruling to the front and rear panels, gilt turn-ins and marbled endpapers, engraved frontispiece, two folding maps and two engraved plates by M. VanderGucht. In very good condition. Rebacked. Armorial bookplate. Very clean internally. An important edition of Josephus, translated by L'Estrange, best known for his 1692 great translation of Aesop's Fables.
