First edition of Almroth Wright's anti-feminist treatise. Octavo, original cloth. Presentation copy, inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper, "Mrs. J. Freeman with the author's kind regards." In near fine condition. Rare and desirable signed and inscribed.
British bacteriologist and immunologist Almroth Wright was strongly opposed to women's suffrage, arguing that women's brains were innately different from men's and were not constituted to deal with social and public issues. In The Unexpurgated Case Against Woman Suffrage, Wright expounded upon these ideas and also vigorously expressed his opposition to the professional development of women. Rebecca West and May Sinclair both wrote articles criticizing Wright's opposition to women's suffrage and Charlotte Perkins Gilman satirized Wright's opposition to women's suffrage in her novel Herland.
