First edition of Norgay's autobiography. Octavo, original cloth, illustrated with photographic frontispiece and 18 pages of photographs. Signed and dated by the author, "Tenzing Norgay 20/5/71" on the half-title page. Postcard momento of the 1971 International Himalayan Expedition, signed by the participants, laid in. Near fine in a near fine dust jacket, bookplate. Jacket art by Dwight Shepler.  Written with James Ramsey Ullman. Books signed by Norgay are rare.
Tenzing Norgay first became involved in the British expeditions to explore Everest in 1935, when he was only 20 years old. He along with Edmund Hillary were the first to reach the summit of Mount Everest on May 29, 1953. Time named him one of the 100 most influential people of the 20th century. In 2003, India's highest adventure sports award, the Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award was renamed after him.
