First edition of this portrait of the past and future from the author of the show-stoppingly popular '2001: A Space Odyssey.' Octavo, original black cloth, pictorial endpapers, illustrated with black and white photographs, diagrams, and charts. Signed by Arthur C. Clarke on the half-title page. Near fine in a very good dust jacket with some closed tears to the extremities.
Arthur C. Clarke is best known for his ability to blend scientific accuracy with speculative fiction. His work as a science fiction writer, non-fiction essayist, futurist, and inventor often foresaw technological developments long before they became reality. In 1962, Clarke was awarded the Kalinga Prize in New Delhi and in 1963 the Stuart Ballantine Medal of the Franklin Institute "for his soundly based and prophetic early concept of the application of satellites in the primary human endeavor of communication."
