Based partly upon the experiences of the author's friend, Marie Louise Habets of the Sisters of Charity of Jesus and Mary, The Nun's Story chronicles the life of a nun who finds her faith tested in a remote Congo hospital. The novel was adapted into a film of the same name directed by Fred Zinnemann and starring Audrey Hepburn. It was a critical and box office success, and Hepburn was nominated for an Academy Award for the third time.
