“Something Has Survived": First Edition of The Making of Jurassic Park: The Lost World; Signed by Legendary Designer Chip Kidd and with a Large Illustration by Him
First edition of the making of the film for Crichton's sequel to Jurassic Park. Quarto, original pictorial wrappers. Boldly signed by legendary designer Chip Kidd with a large original drawing of the iconic dust jacket dinosaur by him on the half-title page. In fine condition. Rare and desirable.
Following the success of Jurassic Park's film adaptation in 1993, Michael Crichton was pressured by fans to write a sequel. He was hesitant to do so, this the first sequel he was to write, and noted that the sequel presented "a very difficult structural problem because it has to be the same but different; if it's really the same, then it's the same—and if it's really different, then it's not a sequel. So it's in some funny intermediate territory." Upon publication, The Lost World spent eight weeks as number one on the New York Times Best Seller List and was soon adapted into the 1997 film of the same name directed by Spielberg which broke many box-office records.
