First edition of the third novel in the author's Professor Challenger series. Octavo, original publishers cloth. In good condition.
Part of Conan Doyle's Professor Challenger series, Land of Mist centers on Challenger's daughter Endi and his old friend Edward Malone who develops an interest in the Spiritualism movement of the early 20th century. The story was heavily influenced by Doyle's own growing belief in Spiritualism after the death of his son, brother, and two nephews in World War I. "The book can be grouped with the other semi-autobiographical novel The Stark Munro Letters. It gives a detailed picture of the author's later years as a spiritualist, as the earlier one does of his years as a doctor. The characters and events in the book are drawn from life" (Green and Gibson).
