First edition of the author's beloved children's classic, adapted into the 1961 animated film produced by Walt Disney Studios. Octavo, bound in full morocco by the Harcourt Bindery with gilt titles and tooling to the spine in five compartments within raised bands, gilt ruling to the front and rear panels, gilt ruled inner dentelles stamp-signed by the Harcourt Bindery, hand-made Italian marbled endpapers, all edges gilt, with 58 illustrations by Janet and Anne Grahame-Johnstone. Presentation copy, inscribed by the author on a page bound-in, "To Charlotte with love from Dodie 1963." In fine condition.
Originally serialized in Woman's Day as The Great Dog Robbery, Dodie Smith's The Hundred and One Dalmatians details the adventures of two Dalmatians named Pongo and Missis who must rescue their puppies from the fur-obsessed villain Cruella de Vil. The books was adapted into the 1961 animated film One Hundred and One Dalmatians produced by Walt Disney Studios. It became the tenth highest-grossing film of 1961, and one of the studio's most popular films of the decade.
