Rare 18th century Book of Common Prayer, formerly used in the Chapel Royal at Hampton Court. Folio, bound in full contemporary black morocco with gilt royal cyphers of King George II to the spine in seven compartments within raised gilt bands, double gilt ruling and elaborate gilt scrolling to the front and rear panels, gilt central coat of arms of King George II to the front and rear panels, "Common Prayer Book 1746" partially faded in blind to upper cover, "Hampton Court Chappell" in gilt to upper cover partially obscuring title given in blind. Provenance: Pencil note to the verso of the front free endpaper, "This Prayer Book was formerly in the Irish House of Commons - and was the one from which the officiating Prelate usually read the Morning Prayers. The other copy (for there were two) is now in the Provosts House in Trinity College, Dublin. This copy was removed to the Chapel Royal, and was purchased from ... by the present owner with some other ... that belonged to the King's Royal Court. It was then used at Hampton Court Chapel." Typed letter signed from the press officer at Buckingham Palace loosely inserted. In very good condition, loss to spine head with old repair.
