First edition of C.S. Forester’s beloved African adventure, the basis for John Huston’s 1951 Oscar-winning film starring Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn. One of only 2500 copies printed. Octavo, bound in full morocco by the Harcourt Bindery with gilt titles and tooling to the spine in six compartments within raised gilt bands, gilt ruling to the front and rear panel, gilt inner dentelles stamp-signed by the Harcourt Bindery, marbled endpapers, all edges gilt in 22 karat gold. Boldly signed by C.S. Forester on a page bound in with an armorial bookplate. Founded over a century ago in 1900, the Harcourt Bindery is the oldest and largest traditional bindery in America exclusively devoted to fine traditional leather bookbinding by hand.
