Songs, Naval and National, of the Late Charles Dibdin, compiled by his son Thomas Dibdin, serves as both a preservation and celebration of Charles Dibdin’s influential patriotic songs, which played a key role in shaping British national identity during the Napoleonic era. Known for their vivid depictions of sailors’ lives, these songs blend sentimentality, humor, and moral fortitude, reinforcing ideals of loyalty, courage, and British maritime supremacy. By compiling the collection with biographical notes and commentary, Thomas Dibdin not only honors his father's legacy but also situates the songs within a broader cultural and historical framework, highlighting their significance as tools of propaganda and morale during wartime.
