First edition of John Addington Symonds' Italian sketches. Small octavo, bound in full vellum with gilt tooling to the spine, morocco spine labels lettered in gilt, marbled endpapers, all edges red, ribbon bound in. In near fine condition.
Selected from Symonds' previously published "Sketches in Italy and Greece" and "Sketches and Studies in Italy", the present volume contains a collection of picturesque vignettes describing the environs of Siena, Perugia, Rimini, Ravenna, Parma, Monte Generoso, and Palermo among other idyllic Italian cities.
