First edition of Eliot's third novel, widely praised as her greatest. Octavo, bound in three quarters morocco by Blackwell-Bennett with gilt titles and ruling to the spine in six compartments within raised gilt bands, gilt ruling to the front and rear panels, top edge gilt, Blackwood and Carlyle advertisements at rear which only appear in some copies, with the original cloth covers bond in at the rear. In very good condition. A sharp example.
