First English deluxe edition of the author’s classic work. Quarto, original publisher's pigskin-backed buckram with gilt titles to the spine and front panel, marbled endpapers, illustrated with photogravures and folding maps. One of 750 numbered copies, this is number 93. In very good condition with rubbing to the spine extremities.
Seven Pillars of Wisdom is a biographical account of T.E. Lawrence's experiences during the Arab Revolt of 1916–18, when he was based in Wadi Rum (now a part of Jordan) as a member of the British Forces of North Africa. With the support of Emir Faisal and his tribesmen, he helped organize and carry out attacks on the Ottoman forces from Aqaba in the south to Damascus in the north. The book was adapted into the film Lawrence of Arabia directed by David Lean, produced by Sam Spiegel and starring Peter O'Toole. It is widely considered one of the greatest and most influential films in the history of cinema.
