Rare photographs of President Ronald Reagan and Nancy Reagan, annotated in his hand. Two color satin-finish photographs. The first is of Ronald Reagan on horseback at Camp David with his handwritten inscription to the border beneath, "A sample of what I'd do at Camp David when we spend a weekend there." The second of Ronald and Nancy Reagan at their ranch in California, Rancho del Cielo, with his handwritten inscription also to the border beneath, "This photo of Nancy & me was taken in front of our ranch house in Calif." Stamped on the verso with "Official Photograph The White House." Ronald Reagan was an avid horseman whose enthusiasm for riding formed an important part of his private life and public persona. At his California ranch, Rancho del Cielo, he kept several horses, most notably his favored Anglo-Arab stallion El Alamein, while his wife Nancy Reagan preferred a horse named No Strings. Reagan’s commitment to riding was well known—Secret Service agents assigned to him were required to learn to ride in order to keep pace—and his equestrian life extended into diplomacy, most famously during his horseback ride with Queen Elizabeth II in 1983. An earlier riding accident, however, later contributed to a 1989 surgery to address a brain fluid condition, effectively bringing an end to his regular horseback riding and marking the close of a defining personal practice. In fine condition. The pieces measures 8 inches by 10 inches.
