Rare original Raw 3 comics magazine call for submissions print with a personalized drawing and note to Jules Feiffer from Art Spiegelman. Octavo, one page, ink on photocopy paper. Inscribed and initialed by Spiegelman with a personalized drawing of two sharply dressed mice having a conversation about Jules Feiffer, "So Jules sez he writes screenplays for money, comics out of habit, and plays for love...it's a nasty habit..." The inscription reads in full, "Hi Jules... Is this the year you rise to the bait? Anyway, curious about your responses to the issue... Love to Jenny, Hope we see you soon... A&F." The recipient, Jules Feiffer, was an influential American cartoonist, playwright, and satirist whose work critically examines mid-20th-century American culture, politics, and personal identity. He was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Editorial Cartooning in 1986 and was inducted into the Comic Book Hall of Fame in 2004, acknowledging his influence on the development of graphic storytelling. Published between 1980 and 1991, the magazine stood out for its use of high-quality paper, professional printing, and a layout designed to complement the artwork. The magazine's flagship comic was "Maus," Spiegelman's graphic novel about his father's experiences as an Auschwitz prisoner. "Maus" debuted in the second issue of Raw and continued until the final issue, after which the compiled book was published in 1992.
