Rare broadside containing the entirety of President Andrew Jackson's Proclamation to the people of the United States in the wake of the Nullification Crisis of 1832. Dated December 10, 1832, one page, typescript. The Nullification Crisis of 1832-1833 was a confrontation between South Carolina and the federal government over tariffs, where South Carolina declared federal tariffs null and void within its borders, leading to a near-civil war that was resolved by a compromise tariff and the Force Bill. Here, Jackson declares South Carolina's actions "incompatible with the existence of the Union, contradicted expressly by its spirit, inconsistent with every principle on which it was founded, and destructive of the great object for which it was formed." In near fine condition with some creasing and scattered tears, paper loss professionally conserved. Matted and framed. The broadside measures 33 inches by 22.25 inches. The entire piece measures 39 inches by 27.5 inches.
