Sixteenth century edition of Giovanni Boccaccio’s Latin work on the downfalls of powerful or famous historical and biblical figures. Duodecimo, written in Italian, bound in full vellum, woodcut chapter decorations. Translated and expanded by Giuseppe Betussi of Bassano. In very good condition with light toning and soiling.
Giovanni Boccaccio was an Italian writer, poet, correspondent of Petrarch, and an important Renaissance humanist. Often referred to as one of the "Three Crowns" of Italian literature along with Dante Alighieri and Petrarch, Boccaccio is responsible for the creation of classic works of imaginative literature such as 'The Decameron' and setting the stage of Renaissance Humanism in Italy.
