First edition of this classic work. Octavo, original cloth. With rare autograph letter signed by Mill one page, the letter reads in full, "Mr. Mill presents his compliments to Mr. Ryley and encloses a cheque for £5 to the Garrison Testimonial. Garrison Nov. 3. 1866." Accompanied by the original mailing envelope addressed in Mill's hand and a handwritten note by William Lloyd Garrison that reads, "Admit the Bearer to Mr. Thompson's Lecture. Wm. Lloyd Garrison." In near fine condition with some rubbing to the extremities. Exceptionally rare and desirable.
