Royal octavo, 2 volumes, original publisher's cloth with elaborately stamped in gilt, with 320 illustrations carefully engraved from the author's original paintings. In very good condition with some light rubbing to the extremities, light toning to the endpapers. An exceptional example with bright gilt decoration. Accompanied by an official Four Centuries of American Art First Day of Issue envelope featuring the author and Thomas Moran from 1998 and a card from the collection of Northern Natural Gas Company featuring a portrait of Mandan Chief, Four Bears, by Karl Bodmer.
