First edition of this collection of equestrian reminiscences. Oblong octavo, original boards, pictorial endpapers, illustrated by Lionel Edwards. Near fine in the rare original dust jacket which is in near fine condition.
English poet, writer, and soldier Siegfried Sassoon was one of the leading poets of the First World War. His poetry both described the horrors of the trenches and satirized the patriotic pretensions of those who, in Sassoon's view, were responsible for a jingoism-fuelled war. Sassoon later won acclaim for his prose work, notably his three-volume fictionalised autobiography, collectively known as the "Sherston trilogy". My First Horse contains the hitherto unpublished reminiscences and stories of six of the best-known equestrian writers of the mid 20th century regarding their first ponies, racehorses, and hunting horses.
