Signed limited edition of this rare artist's book, or "art object" published on the occasion of the Gala of the 30th Anniversary of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles. Oblong octavo, the text block of the book is entirely blank, the artist's intention being for its owner to write their own history in its pages. One of approximately 1000 copies produced for distribution to members and attendees, not sold to the public. Signed by Ed Ruscha on the colophon. Each foredge of the text block contains one of the words of the object's title: MAKE - NEW - HISTORY. Laid in is a printed card noting that the art object was designed by Ed Ruscha on the occasion of the MOCA NEW 30th Anniversary Gala. The text block of the book is entirely blank, the artist's intention being for its owner to write their own history in its pages. In fine condition. Housed in the original cardboard box.
American artist Edward Ruscha achieved recognition for paintings incorporating words and phrases and for his many photographic books, all influenced by the deadpan irreverence of the Pop Art movement. His textual, flat paintings have been linked with both the Pop Art movement and the beat generation.
