First edition of this history of Havana, Cuba, and its role in the cigar industry by the legendary Zino Davidoff. Quarto, original boards, with color illustrations and photographs throughout. Presentation copy, lengthily inscribed by Zino Davidoff to restaurant owner Georg Schraner on the half-title page in French. Fine in a near fine dust jacket. Accompanied by a mimeographed typed letter in German laid in from Davidoff to Schraner that inspections had found the "Davidoff" and "Rey del Mundo" brand cigars treated with "professional care and presentation." Books signed and inscribed by Davidoff are rare.
Zino Davidoff (1906–1994) was a Swiss-Ukrainian tobacconist, entrepreneur, and cultural icon whose innovations and branding transformed the global cigar industry. Born in Kyiv and raised in Geneva, Davidoff immersed himself in tobacco cultivation during formative travels through Latin America, particularly in Cuba, where he spent several years mastering cigar production techniques. 'L’Histoire de Havane' is a visually rich and culturally informed tribute to the Cuban capital, with a particular emphasis on its central role in the history of cigar production. Drawing on Davidoff’s deep personal and professional ties to the world of premium cigars, the book intertwines historical narrative, artistic illustration, and anecdotal reflection to present Havana as both a physical city and a symbol of craftsmanship, luxury, and tradition.
