Led Zeppelin was a British rock band formed in London in 1968 whose nine studio albums, released over a decade of extraordinary creative productivity, established them as arguably the most influential and commercially dominant rock act of the 1970s and one of the defining forces in the entire history of popular music. The band comprised Robert Plant on vocals, Jimmy Page on guitar, John Paul Jones on bass and keyboards, and John Bonham on drums, and their synthesis of blues, folk, Eastern musical traditions, hard rock, and psychedelia into a sound of unprecedented power, dynamism, and textural sophistication set a standard against which virtually every subsequent rock act measured itself.
