"In short, the United States is to-day the only important civilized nation immediately eligible which is not a member of the League": First edition of Irving Fisher's League or War?; inscribed by him
First edition of Fisher's book arguing in favor of the United States joining the League of Nations. Octavo, original cloth. Signed by the author on the front free endpaper, "Yours for peace, Irving Fisher." Near fine in the rare original dust jacket which is in very good condition. Scarce and desirable, not only inscribed, but in the rare dust jacket.
In the present volume, Fisher urges America to join the League of Nations in order to avoid another world war. Following a concise review of the American attitude toward world affairs following WWI, Fisher argues that America must join the League to take a stand against both punitive actions against losing nations and the build-up of war machinery. Ultimately, it was precisely these actions which encouraged the onset of World War II.
