“TO BE AN ARTIST, YOU NEED TO EXIST IN A WORLD OF SILENCE”: FIRST EDITION OF LA FAMILLE; SIGNED BY LOUISE LA FAMILLE; Signed by Artist Louise Bourgeois
First edition. Octavo, original illustrated boards. In fine condition. Signed by the artist Louise Bourgeois on the half-title page.
La Famille’s artistic oeuvre deals almost exclusively with the fear of not being able to live up to the roles she was born into and took on. Most of her early works consisted of paintings on the theme of family and her later work grew more sexualized. This thematic gathering consists of 20 paintings, more than 60 drawings, 35 sculptures and 5 embroideries.
