First edition of this collection of articles relating to the interpretation of dreams, the majority of which were previously published in periodical literature. Octavo, original cloth. Inscribed and dated by the author on the front free endpaper, "Frau Margarete Rellner-Weiss mil dem Gruss des Verf. Sigm. Freud 1927 (Mrs. Margarete Rellner-Weiss with greetings from the author)." Bookplate of the recipient to the inside front panel, in near fine condition with a touch of rubbing. Housed in a custom half morocco clamshell box. An exceptional example, books signed by Freud are scarce.
Sigmund Freud published over 40 books throughout his lifetime, many on the subject of dream theory and interpretation including The Interpretation of Dreams, what most consider to be his greatest and most influential work. Throughout his works, Freud proposed that dreams were forms of "wish fulfillment", or attempts by the unconscious mind to resolve conflicts both recent and far in the recesses of dreamer's past. His Small Contribution to Dream Theory is a collection of short articles published by Freud between the years of 1913 and 1923, which includes Fairy Tale Material of Dreams, A Dream as Means of Proof, Dream and Telepathy, Notes Upon the Theory and Practice of Dream Interpretation, The Limits of Dream Interpretation, The Ethical Responsibility for the Contents of Dreams, and The Occult Significance of Dreams.
