RARE AMERICAN JUSTICE OF the PEACE APPOINTMENT BOLDLY SIGNED BY FOUNDING FATHER JOHN HANCOCK
Justice of the Peace appointment boldly signed by John Hancock in 1782 as Governor of Massachusetts. One page, partially printed on watermarked laid paper with wafer Massachusetts seal. The document appoints John Davies as "Justice of the Peace." Dated January 28th 1782 and boldly signed by John Hancock at the lower right. Countersigned by John Avery Jr. as Secretary of the Commonwealth and docketed on the verso. Presented in a double-pane frame. In very good condition with some toning, rubbing to the edges, a few punctures along the mail folds, and a few small mounting adhesives to extremities of the verso. The document measures 18.25 inches by 11.5 inches. The entire piece measures 21.5 inches by 14.8 inches.
