Autograph quotation signed by John Fowles, from Chapter 9 of his classic work, The Magus. One page, octavo, dated August 4, 1983. The quotation reads in full, "Years later I saw the gabbia at Piacenza: a harsh black canaray-cage strung high up the side of the towering campanile, in which prisoners were once left to starve to death and rot in full view of the town below.
