First edition of these plays by the Nobel Prize-winning author. Octavo, original cloth, top edge gilt. Presentation copy, inscribed by the author in the year of publication on the half-title page, "To Stewart D. Headlam from G. Bernard Shaw. 17th June 1907." Shaw first met Stewart Headlam through the Land Reform Union, a Georgite [Henry George] society in favor of land nationalization. Headlam was an English Anglican priest who was involved in frequent controversy in the final decades of the nineteenth century. Headlam was a pioneer and publicist of Christian socialism, on which he wrote a pamphlet for the Fabian Society, and a supporter of Georgism. He was noted for his role as the founder and warden of the Guild of St Matthew and for helping to bail Oscar Wilde from prison at the time of his trials. In near fine condition. Housed in a custom half morocco and chemise clamshell box.
