Hudson Strode (1892–1976) was an American author and professor best known for his biographical and travel writings, particularly his three-volume biography of Jefferson Davis. A longtime faculty member at the University of Alabama, Strode was influential in shaping Southern literary culture through both his teaching and prolific writing. His portrayal of Davis reflects his broader ideological leanings, characterized by a romanticized view of the Old South and a tendency toward Lost Cause narratives. While Strode's literary craftsmanship and thorough archival work have earned scholarly recognition, his work has also drawn criticism for its idealized depictions of Confederate figures and insufficient critical distance.
