Signed limited first edition of David Ben-Gurion’s history of Israel, told by the state’s founding prime minister. Thick quarto, bound in full dark blue morocco with gilt titles to the spine, a gilt Star of David and the author’s gilt facsimile signature to the front panel, watered silk endpapers, top edge gilt, illustrated with black-and-white photographs and maps. One of 2000 numbered copies, this is number 1072. Boldly signed by David Ben-Gurion beneath the photographic frontispiece. In fine condition. Housed in the original publisher’s slipcase, which is near fine. Translated by Nechemia Meyers and Uzy Nystar. Maps by Nurit Shraga, adapted by Miklos Pinther.
David Ben-Gurion’s life has been so completely identified with Jewish history that “Israel: A Personal History” amounts to an autobiography. With this book, Ben-Gurion joins the small company of great historical figures who have left for posterity a personal record of the events in which they were prime movers.
