Eighteenth century edition of this marvelous narrative poem. Octavo, bound in three quarter contemporary brown calf over blue marbled boards with gilt titles and tooling to the spine, marbled endpapers, original silk ribbon laid in. In good condition with rubbing to the extremities, spine, front and rear panels, some loss to the calf binding and very light toning throughout.
Giovanni Boccaccio was an Italian writer, poet, correspondent of Petrarch, and an important Renaissance humanist. Often referred to as one of the "Three Crowns" of Italian literature along with Dante Alighieri and Petrarch, Boccaccio is responsible for the creation of classic works of imaginative literature such as 'The Decameron' and setting the stage of Renaissance Humanism in Italy.
