The Limited Editions Club limited edition of Baudelaire’s best-known work. Octavo, bound in full modern morocco by Sangorski & Sutcliffe / Zaehnsdorf with gilt titles and tooling to the spine in six compartments within raised gilt bands, gilt ruling and floral detailing to the front and rear panels, top edge gilt, gilt turn-ins and inner dentelles, marbled endpapers, frontispiece, illustrated with black and white drawings. One of an unstated number of copies, this is number 890. In fine condition. Edited, with an introduction and notes, by James Laver. Illustrated by Jacob Epstein. Translated from the French by various hands. An exceptional presentation.
French poet Charles Baudelaire's highly original style of prose-poetry influenced an entire generation of poets including Paul Verlaine, Arthur Rimbaud and Stéphane Mallarmé, among many others. His most famous work, Les Fleurs du mal (The Flowers of Evil) expresses the changing nature of beauty in modern, and rapidly industrializing Paris during the mid-19th century.
